Every year, jazz fanatics around the world gather together to celebrate the music that they love on April 30 – International Jazz Day. Concerts are held in cities around the world in an attempt to spread the word about jazz, a music that unfortunately sits outside the realm of popular appeal. Those of us that value jazz deeply hope for this focus on jazz everyday, but the reality is otherwise. So we have International Jazz Day, a great idea that shines a spotlight upon jazz – at least for a day – and makes sure that the music is heard by a new collection of people.

The royalty of the jazz world grabs the opportunity to celebrate International Jazz Day with a huge concert; the show is held in a different location each year and 2017 found the concert in Havana, Cuba. This was a prime opportunity to not only bring jazz onto center stage, but it was also a time where Latin Jazz got some deserved attention. There was a host of important musicians from the Latin Jazz world on display, including Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ivan Lins, Bobby Carcasses, and more. It was amazing to see these musicians share the stage with Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Esperanza Spalding, and more. International Jazz Day 2017 was certainly an important show of love for Latin Jazz that you don’t want to miss, so today’s LJC Video Feature is the complete concert – enjoy!
