This exciting project represents the continuation of a dynamic artistic collaboration that began in 2015 between Arturo O’Farrill, leader of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra (ALJO) and Letieres Leite, maestro of Orkestra Rumpilezz from Bahia, Brazil. During Rumpilezz’s debut US tour, Arturo was guest composer and soloist. This time around it is Letieres’ turn to do the same with ALJO. This new production will explore the profound influences of the sacred rhythms of African based religions like the Candomble of Brazil and the Santeria of Cuba in the popular music of Brazil and in Afro Latin jazz of the Caribbean and North America. The show also features as special guests some of the top percussionists of Bahia, some coming from Brazil and others living here in the US, who will participate not only in Letieres’ collaboration with ALJO but also in a new presentation mixing and merging traditional rhythms with contemporary electronic sounds.

There will be a pre show discussion on May 12 starting at 7pm.
