Latin Jazz was recognized quite extensively at this year’s Jazz Journalist Association Awards. One of last year’s best albums won the Record Of The Year category while representatives from all corners of the Latin Jazz world filled a number of additional categories. This was a great recognition of the increased importance of Latin Jazz in the greater Jazz world, as pointed out by some of the music’s specialists.

The JJA Awards given to Latin Jazz artists were:

Record Of The Year – Madera Latino: A Latin Jazz Interpretation on the Music of Woody Shaw, Brian Lynch

Large Ensemble Of The Year – Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra

Trumpeter Of The Year – Brian Lynch

Multi-reeds Player Of The Year – Anat Cohen
Clarinetist Of The Year – Anat Cohen

Percussionist Of The Year – Pedrito Martinez

Congratulations to all of the artists who won Jazz Journalist Association Awards. You can get the full list of categories and winners HERE.
