Today’s video feature re-contextualizes “Hojarasca,” a beautiful piece of music from Peruvian composer Daniel “Kiri” Escobar in a stately and elegant context, through the work of guitarist Yuri Juárez. This piece of music, taken from Juárez’s 2016 release Guitar Sapiens takes a piece of traditional Peruvian music and sets it in a symphonic setting. Strings provide a lush texture filled with brass colors while Sofia Tosello provides a captivating vocal interpretation of the melody. Acoustic guitar from Juárez provides some rhythmic momentum that sits as both a wonderful counterpart to the symphonic sound and a link to Peruvian tradition. With this gorgeous musical intepretation of Escobar’s work in place, Juárez takes things one step further and creates a distinct video presentation. Balancing clips of Tosello performing with vocal with playful scenes of Juárez as a clown and children in the sun, this is a thoughtful and creative look at the song using video. There’s so many moments of beauty from Juárez that place Escobar’s work in a new light – enjoy!
