Puerto Rican percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo is arguably the greatest contemporary conga drummer. He is a gifted genius who over the last 35 years has changed the art, concept and technique of that ancient and fundamental instrument. He is a true innovator and living legend who has lifted the image and respect for the drum internationally through a lifetime of ceaseless recording and touring the world.

Due to complications from diabetes, he has been unable to work for almost two years. With the proceeds of this concert, we are able to lift him up a little and express our gratitude for all he has given to the art of world music and the cultural legacy of the conga drum.
